Josh Kilmer-Purcell led a double life in New York City in the 1990’s. During the day he worked as an art director for a major advertising agency. At night, he wore a pair of acrylic breasts filled with water and live goldfish and under the name Aquadesia.
Also known as Aqua, he worked his routine with our very own Miss Understood at Lucky Chang’s, a popular drag-entertainment Asian restaurant in New York City. Aqua won many contests, but the wild thing about her life is the excess of her existence-booze, drugs, hooker parties, bondage freaks and a hustler boyfriend.
On the right is a Wigstock publicity photo of Josh Kilmer-Purcell as Aqua. Note the live goldfish in his costume!
On todays show we discuss his new book “I Am Not Myself These Days: A Memoir.” Josh’s book is tale of being in love with the wrong man in the wrong way. This troublesome romance starts in a drunken mess and ends, well… we don’t want to give it away so you will have to read it to find out!
In Josh Kilmer-Purcell’s memoir you might see the influence of his good friend James Frey, author of the highly debated book on everyone’s lips: “A Million Little Pieces.” Listen to Josh speak candidly about the “frey over Frey” in the publishing world, the ramification it presents to his own book, and Oprah’s reaction to Frey’s missteps.
Delicious, pernicious and nutritious, the Feast of Fools.

It looks like Aqua Velva and is just as strong! Its minty fresh and definitely NOT a morning beverage. This cocktail is best served on the rocks.
Be sure when making an infusion with any liquor that you try to find the freshest, pesticide-free ingredients to ensure a delicious flavor in your beverage.
You’ll need:

Black history month begins this year on a sad note with the death of longtime civil rights champion for all, Coretta Scott King.
Mrs. Coretta is considered by many as the “first lady” of the civil rights movement. She worked hard to keep her husband the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy alive in the difficult […]

The Chinese Zodiac considers 2006 to be the year of the dog. Insert joke here. So naturally, Miss Ronnie and Marc begged and pleaded Fausto to go to the south side and represent at the Chinese New Year Parade.
What was odd about the event was the lack of Asian people. There were high school hip-hop […]

Fausto opens the show today with a letter from one our listeners. We all have a great time relating to the letter and horsing around with the content. But in the end its Miss Ronnie that sends home the message of “acceptance.” In Miss Ronnie’s colorful way, you can “inspect, accept or reject” and she […]

Victoria Lamarr has been spending a lot of time at home lately recovering from her surgery. Victoria lives with not just any old HIV infection but with full blown AIDS. Even for Victoria Lamarr, who is clearly the most beautiful women on the Internet, intimate relationships are not easy. But, alas, Miss Vicki does go […]

The repugnant idea that President George W Bush might be gay went across our minds yesterday when we saw the video where he is asked by a college student at a local university wether he had seen the much talked about gay-cowboy film “Brokeback Mountain.”
The guy had a golden opportunity to say something […]

It’s so much fun to invite your friends over, put on your prettiest, warmest, pajamas and play the game “Bananas in Pajamas.” Just kidding. About the Bananas in Pajamas, that is.
On today’s special Martinicast we’ll be making two drinks, a good one and a horrible tasting one. My mad scientist boyfriend Marc is always trying […]

Cocktail: Organic Cosmopolitan

The Cosmopolitan traces its roots firmly in the mid 90’s in the peak of Madonna’s career where she was spotted drinking one at Dale DeGroff’s Rainbow Room club in New York City. It’s now considered by many to be the second most recognized cocktail in the world, right after the Martini.
One of my favorite “twists” […]
