The city of Philadelphia is making moves to bring gay tourists!Gonna fly now, because today the Feast of Fools takes you to Philadelphia. We’re knee deep in cheese steak sandwiches, Liberty bells and the origins of fabulous 70s disco music, we’re talking about the city of brotherly (and sisterly) love: PHILADELPHIA.

The city that’s home to the first Oscar-winning Hollywood motion picture about HIV/AIDS wants the gay tourists to come and shake your booty. So listen up as our pal Gregg Shapiro talks this fabulous city and all the great things they offer. One of my personal favorite is the Philadelphia Live Arts Festival (Philly Fringe) that draws thousands of performers and audience members in what probably is the nation’s best live theater, music and new art festival.

My advice is get yourself a festival pass and try to get on the list to the more popular shows, as those sell out quickly. But don’t fret, most of the stuff happening in the two week extravaganza is high quality work, and sometimes the quieter shows are some of the more exciting ones.

Fausto in February 2002.In 1997 I performed there as part of the Ladybeast Linkup, where Asimina Chremos (one of the founders of the Feast of Fools) and I and a bunch of other dancers and queer inspired performance artists shook our booties on the Philly stage. I popped out of a paper egg and sang some cabaret songs while balancing a martini glass on my forehead, all the while eating fire and looking like a hallucinogenic extra from a Sid and Marty Krofft TV show.
