Podcast Inferno! Amanda Steinstein wants you to listen...Thank you for downloading our ODDcast. Notice there’s no “P” in it, please keep it that way. Today’s show is brought to you by the letter P- we’ll be talking about all sort of wonderful things that begin with the letter P.

Passive Protesters
San Francisco cab driver slash peace activist Brad Newsham just organized over 1,000 people to lay down on the sand to spell out a giant “Impeach!” And no, they aren’t talking about Georgia fruit. But is really the best way to put their message forward? By lying down?

Somehow this reminds us of “Hands Across America” the hype-driven media stunt organized by celebrities in the 80s to help fight homelessness.

Pretty Pakistanis
Learn how to say her name- Begum Nawazish Ali. She’s Pakistan’s top rated muslim tranny talk show host, who’s impressive array of guests include the country’s law minister.

Think of her as a Pakistani trannie Muslim version of Jon Stewart, without the obvious humor. Can any of our Muslim Pakistani listeners understand what she’s saying in this video excerpt of her TV show?

Polish Politics
Even though the country of Poland is in the US State Department’s list of the world’s worst places to live if you’re gay, it’s getting pressure from the European parliament to force it’s leaders to stop creating gay hatred in their population.

Poland’s Deputy Education Minister, Miroslaw Orzechowski, said last month that a law banning the promotion of homosexuality in schools would be finished within weeks.

Human rights organizations said it would prevent lessons promoting tolerance towards homosexuals and the dissemination of lifesaving information about Aids.

Paris in Plaster
Sculptor Daniel Edwards, well known for his cheeky sculpture of pop singer Britney Spears giving birth to her son on a bear rug or the Romantic bust of presidential wannabe Hillary Rodham Clinton with perky breasts has unveiled his latest creation- an unglamorous sculpture of Paris Hilton, posed as if she was dead, naked with her legs splayed open and her pet chihuahua jumping on her in matching tiaras.

The sculpture is a part of a interactive campaign to warn teenagers of the dangers of drunk driving during prom season.

Happy May Day!

  • Where was the second clue?

  • Amanda has never been funnier. I like this cast! Keep on castin’ ladies!

  • Haven’t listened to the show yet, but I just wanted to say happy late birthday to V-Mo :P

  • The second clue is “WANT”

  • On the subject of marching bands:

When I was in band in high school, we did in fact use the lines on the football field as a reference.
We were trained to develop a stride that took us from one five-yard line to the next in four steps.
We used the hash marks as a reference for the 1-yard lines when we were mid-field.

As far as a vertical reference, we relied on having the band director form the picture while he was standing on the roof of the band room and directing us where to stand, and we then memorized our position relative to the people in front of us.
The lead person usually had some visual reference, like a hash mark, to guide their final position.
Changing pictures then relied on taking steps forward, backwards, sideways, and doing pivots (I was doing “quarter turns” before Clay ever thought of them) to get us from one position to the next at a certain point in the music.

How about Spongebob Squarepants pet snail Gary???

    Gary T

  • Hey there, I heard the part about fish chaging sex. Actually there are fish, specifically clownfish, that when they pair up they fight to become either male or female. Also their are other kinds of fish that will change gender if there is a shortage of one or the other and can go back and forth. Hope that’s interesting enough.

  • hey, Amanda: This is really interesting!
    http://www.radioopensource.org/new-zoology/
Scientists talking about elephant funerals, laughing rats, and dolphins looking at themselves in the mirror.

Another coincidence: This morning on All Things Considered, I heard a report about chimps and bonobos displaying morality and empathy.

It’s pretty amazing what those animal “it”s are up to these days… might be time to start calling them he and she after all.

  • Laying down and wait for peace, isn’t that what USA is ALREADY doing?

Hands across America, so foney, homeless people aren’t as hot as they where in the 80’s, so we can make fun of them now!

Somebody shoud “life imitating art, imitating life” on Paris Hilton, and get rid of her finally, LOL, just kidding I love the crazyness of those celebritards.

I want to go to Alt + Q! I am totally in love with Chris Garneau!!! I want to move to Chicago, you have such great gay events and stuff, I would go to every event you talk about, the Lesbians Against Cancer Ball, the Tickleled Pink Gala, oy vey…

When is this exploring profiles thing going to work? It’s hard to surf through the site with the cattle numbers you gave us.

Dolphins have their own celebrities, that’s great I imagine an anorexic, alcoholic dolphin carrying a Chanel purse and showing it’s “coo” to the paparazzis…

    Love Actor/Model too!

The Feast of Fools, the first internet zoo featuring drag queen peacocks!

  • Have you seen anything about Asiz, a crazy flamboyant Bulgarian tranny popstar? My college roommate was from Bulgaria and always had interesting things to say such as “If you wake up in the middle of the night with your throat slit, it wasn’t me” after coming out to him. It is very intriguing to see these celebrities such as Begum Nawazish Ali, Asiz, Verka Serduchka (Ukraine’s drag queen Eurovision entry, alongside another from Denmark!), pop up in cultures that aren’t often seen as particularly enlightened in the area of GLBT rights. All seem to provoke similar controversy (disgracing national culture, heresy, etc) and yet remain quite popular.

  • I closed the comment section on this entry because it attracted a spam generator. If you want to post a comment, please let me know and I’ll open it up for you.
