Will and Grace are in the house tonight! Well, not really but close enough- today we are joined by of Allison Ford and Jim Bresnahan who are the co-chairs of the Tickled Pink 2007.
The Human Rights Campaign Chicago Dinner Gala is one of the largest annual LGBT fund raising events in the Midwest and always has a fabulous celebrity to showcase. This year they have Oscar winning actress Marlee Matlin. Marlee is best know for the performance in Children of a Lesser God and can now be seen on the “L” word.
The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) which lobbies Washington, DC for equal rights for the GLBT community. HRC is currently working on getting the Senate to pass the Matthew Shepard Bill which will protect people from crimes based on your solely on one’s sexuality. They’re also working on the ENDA bill which is the Employment Non-Discrimination Act which will bar someone from being fired because of one’s sexuality or perceived sexuality. So even if you’re not gay and they fire you because you are a big flaming hetero queen, you can still sue-and-win!
Did you know that May 17th was the National Day Against Homophobia? It’s the day that commemorates the anniversary that the World Health Organization removed being gay from it list of mental disorders. Can you believe it was only seventeen years ago? Can you believe it? It seems like something that should have been off the list decades ago. We still have lots of work to do.
We also can finally agree the Rev. Fred Phelps. He is finally making some sense. He is making plans to protest at Falwell’s funeral and has said of the late charlatan “the corpulent false prophet Jerry Falwell, who spent his entire life prophesying lies and false doctrines…” What do you think will come of him protesting at Falwell’s funeral? Will he gain some more converts?
And this ripped from the headlines “Giuliani, McCain Too Gay Friendly For FOF Leader.” This is in no way an endorsement or rejection a potential presidential candidate by this FOF. That FOF is not even us! Can you believe that Focus on the Family is using our TLA (Three Letter Acronym) or is it the liberal media trying to confuse the issue? Very interesting. We’ll have to keep an eye on this one.

May 18, 2007 at 09:09One very important note on the Employment Non-Discrimination Act:
The Act would not apply to any religiously-oriented business, such as the archdiocese for which Fausto worked.
Groups such as the American Family Association have told their flock that the opposite is true–or at least eventually would be true. People have been led to believe that their churches could be forced to hire gay people (as if that would be a bad thing) or risk being sued, and I believe that this has been a major reason that passing the Act has been delayed for years now.
