“Where the Lord closes a door, somewhere He opens a window.” This memorable quote from the fabulous musical film “The Sound of Music” comes to mind when thinking about the sad news on peace activist Cindy Sheehan announcing on Wednesday that she was calling it quits and moving back to California to be with her remaining children and try to “live a normal life.”
From her letter on the Daily Kos:
The most devastating conclusion that I reached this morning, however, was that Casey did indeed die for nothing… Casey died for a country which cares more about who will be the next American Idol than how many people will be killed in the next few months while Democrats and Republicans play politics with human lives. It is so painful to me to know that I bought into this system for so many years and Casey paid the price for that allegiance. I failed my boy and that hurts the most.
Meanwhile on daytime TV Rosie O’Donnell, another different kind of peace activist, left her year-long stint on the daytime television talk-show “The View” three weeks early. Part of the reason Rosie left in such a huff was a result of the explosive debate with Pro-Bush co-host Elizabeth Hasselbeck over the War in Iraq. We all love a good cat-fight, even more when it’s one that’s socially conscious.
We all wish Rosie well, but we thought the heated conversation over Iraq on “The View” was a vital conversation this nation needs more of and wished it lasted a little longer than it did. My guess is part of the reason why the ratings were so high is that people are starving for a meaningful discussion about President Bush’s terrible record. That’s why we all lost in thinking about the next political candidate, when we really should be focusing on impeachment. Eighteen months is a long time when you have a moron at the helm.
If you just started listening to this podcast, we’d like to say “hello!” Typically when Apple updates iTunes or announces a new product available on the music store we get a influx of new listeners who stumble upon the show. We’re all excited because Apple is now selling digital rights management free music, including stuff from Coldplay, The Rolling Stones, Frank Sintara and more than a dozen of Paul McCartney’s classic albums. We’re wondering when we can finally get a DRM-free “I’m Too Sexy” by Right Said Fred.
