In case you haven’t noticed it, June is Pride Season all around the world. That’s Pride with a capital “P.”
Every June gays, lesbians, trans folks, bi-sex-y’alls and queers of every shade and color of the rainbow come out of the woodwork to celebrate and participate in their local Pride Parades, or what I call “summer mardi gras.”
Straight people have tons of events and excuses to get all sloshed up and celebrate with decadent excess the joy of life all thought the year.
In the past decades, most urban places in the western world have started acknowledging the riots that happened at the Stonewall inn in New York City in 1969, that ignited the modern gay rights movement.
Almost every Pride Parade in Chicago Sal-E rounds up his pals and puts on a dazzling display of colorful, imaginative costumes to promote a local watering hole and showcase his costuming abilities. It’s a hoot.
In 2005 Sal-E came up with a Dr. Seuss theme for a float for Boom Boom Room nightclub, where dozens of people dressed up as characters from the popular children’s book series.
Join us on todays show as Sal-E talks with Marc and me, Fausto about the nighclub scene in Chicago, preparing costumes and setting a grand spectacle for Chicago’s pride parade.
Check out these great photos from last years Pride Parade with Star Trek’s & Heroes George Takei! (Yes, that’s really me feeding him apple pie.)
We also share the news on Iran’s disconcerting move to execute porn stars, Pres. Bush’s watch getting stolen and Pres. Bush denying that his watch got stolen.
