A double major in gay- Andy Shaw (who's in musical theater and graphic design) joins us on the Feast of Fools podcastAndy Shaw has a triple major in GAY from Purdue University. Last year he graduated in Graphic Design with a minor in Musical Theater and he came out of the ting-a-ling closet while he was living in a straight fraternity, Delta Chi.

Andy Shaw loves the gravy.I know what you’re thinking: “did he just use the words “gay” and “fraternity” in the same sentence?” Yes I did, and I’m not talking about some Sean Cody video.

Andy is hot. So hot in fact he joined Marc this past Pride Parade in Chicago to help pass out mashed potatoes and gravy to the Good People of the World.

So we had to ask to Andy, do young gay men get annoyed when SLIGHTLY older peers refer to them cattily as “chicken?” Andy didn’t know what the term meant.

So pulling out the ol’ internet, Marc discovered that words we all use like “camp”, “drag” and “chicken” all come from Polari, a secret slang of gay British subculture that dates back to the 19th century. It was revived in the 1950’s by the popular BBC radio show Julian and Sandy and forms much of the modern lexicon of contemporary gay culture. The biggest surprise for Marc was the use of the initials HP to describe an effeminate gay man. Do you think J.K. Rowlings thought of this when she named her hero Harry Potter or HP for short?

You learn all sorts of things on the Feast of Fools podcast!

Somebody forgot to take their nap! Yes, Sir Elton John is at it again, launching a tirade against contemporary popular music. He doesn’t like it, and he’s blaming the internet.

Earlier this week he told Britain’s The Sun newspaper:

“The internet has stopped people from going out and being with each other from creating stuff… Hopefully the next movement in music will tear down the internet. It would be great to see the internet shut down for five years and see what sort of art is produced over that span. I’m sure, as far as music goes, it would be much more interesting than it is today.”

Considering his last album only sold 100,000 copies, I’m wondering if he’s blaming the internet for lack of public interest in his new music. He can’t even get it downloaded illegally!

The real reason why corporate rock still sucks is because our radio waves and music venues are being squashed into oblvion by the labels and their associations. Instead of investing in research and development, the record industry as a whole spends most of it’s efforts litigating its listeners instead of nurturing and discovering new artists.

Realty TV shows are fun, but the good stuff is already out there. That’s why people are making and listening to podcasts! If you want to discover some great indie music, check out these RIAA-free, all independent music podcasts:

Andy in oil while hold a can o gravy?? Where is the sploshing tag? Voted!

I do my darndest to post my comments. Your show is awesome. I listen while I work almost every day.

Y’all should give out tea at the next parade… I also listen to the FOF at work - its the only way to start the mornings!

Mo If they gave out tea, people might think they were offering to do some teabagging ;-)

Fausto Thanks. You made me spill my chai latte, when you said “hair pie”. LOL

Are you kidding me, If you are really going to come to naperville you HAVE to call me, I am one town over, everytime I come and see you guys I leave from the naperville train station, Look me up I will totally love to have a feast of fools tour of naperville. Its a cute city to visit. I will give you the Mike from Bolingbrook tour of the suburbs.

The bridge collapse was an aueful story.

Someone wrote to me that they translated the Bible into Polari http://www.thesisters.demon.co.uk/bible

I think we should pass out at the next Pride Parade. Get it?

the naked wrestling story made my face hurt from laughing so much.

Your pain is our joy.

He’s cute. I know we can’t see you (usually) but a hottie that isn’t slow (ahem, E.S.) is always a lovely addition.

He’s cute, he’s witty…he’s a keeper!

“Josie Crystal” That’s hilarious!

Great show! Does anyone else share the consensus that Andy and Sal=E could be the same person? He sounds so much like Sal it’s eerie. Aside from the wild makeup, contact lenses and hair, of course. ;-)

Really though, I enjoyed him a lot. Though I’d enjoy him even more in oil and gravy… :-D

“Nobody likes greasy Fausto!” That comment made me laugh all day. :)

Haa! “he didn’t take his Metamusil that morning ”
And though I’d been warned, I couldnt help it :P I was lifting weights while listening to the show when Fausto put the “hair pie” image in my head and almost droped them on my head.. and I just had to put them back in the rack with Marc’s contagious laugh. Great show..

great show.. it ensured much lol’ing in me. Andy was a lot of fun. he kinda sounded like SAL-E, he had a great personality.

I second RcktMan’s and xChickengirlx’ observation of the similarity between Sal-E and Andy’s voices.

The tribute to the victims and survivors of the bridge collapse was touching.
I hope none of Marc’s family members were anywhere near that bridge.

I haven’t heard anything, so no news is good news. Thanks David and I think I figured out the your spam comment problem.

check out the classic morrissey song “piccadilly palare” from the album “bona drag”–

“…(palare was) just silly slang between me and the boys in my gang…
so bona to vada, oh you! your lovely eek and your lovely riah!”

the second line, roughly translated, means “so good to see you! your lovely face and lovely hair!”

how gay is that?!! fabulosa!!!

What a hottie!!! ;) *Call me*

Looking good Curtis!

Cool! Thanks for posting my photo with my new fab T! Love the show! Keep up the great work :-) xoxo

BBQ Chicken!

Marc you’re such a liar! I remember I was cracking up because I couldnt believe you were actually going to do it after I’d heard you talking about it for so long. I thought it was hilarious and was taking pictures from the window. I didnt think it was weird at all.

Andy, I’m jealous you got on the podcast since I was the original member that turned all you boys onto them, ah well ;o) Glad you had fun!

Where IS Andy anyways? Somebody must have kidnapped him.

Andy was a really cool addition to the show. It’s intresting to have a young (early 20’s) perspective on things. It’s also intresting to hear what a real life gay guy in a straight fraternity stories may be. damn all those pornos lie about all the drunken gay hookups! lol

Blue Bolt, that FAUXHAWK looks SO cute on you!

I seem to recall that some Palare words were just the English word spelled backwards, like “riah” for “hair”. Not sure how “face” became “eek,” unless it was intended to disparage someone’s looks.

Lol…I have not been kidnapped Fausto…boy, I have a funny story to tell you. Call you guys after work!!! :)

Thanks everyone for listening and for the nice comments…Don’t foget to vote for Feast of Fools for “Podcast of the Year” and “Best GLBT Postcast”!

Sidenote: Gravy Boy Andy and Sal-E are indeed two different people lol….

Great show - once again you have a fab conversational third. “Sal-E” voice?? At times I thought that.

What to hand out? Pudding.

Andy sounds like a cross between Sal-E and somebody I went to school with.

And yes, he *is* a hottie. ;)

And, BTW - most people have anecdotes like “yes, and then I missed my plane” - Fausto has “remember the time I was asked to do nude oil wrestling?” He keeps dropping these anecdotes…

Great new addition to the show…good job Andy & Gentlemen!

(Back from vacation, just catching up)

Hey Andy, Welcome to the FOF. I enjoy your fresh voice and your total hotness.

I guess all guys named Andy are Cute!! :)

WELL SAID, ANDY! lol :)

Cute show! Andy Shaw was a great guest.

Great podcast. Andy was a nice addition to the show.

Andy was wonderful, a joy to listen to, and I’d love to hear him on another episode. By the way Andy, I’m 5′6” to, so if you’re ever in Georgia…..

Silly people… Sal-E has a more hispanic/lyspy sounding voice … they’re definitely two people, no question. Besides, why would Sal-E try to look so normal? That’s just crazy. lol!

Great show, I’d vote now but I have to wait ’till 4 in the morning now

Just a Quick Comment about Polari. Marc made a comment on Harry Porter, making a connection to it being omi-polone. that would only apply if it was written as ‘Homi-polone’

xx

this episode was hilarious. i ilke the elton john impersonation. hahahahah i wish we can verify which derivation of the word drag is true hugs to all
