Chicago Mr. Gay 2008 Shar Devon on the Feast of Fools PodcastWhen I first interviewed fashion model and businessman Shar Devon for our video podcast he had just won the Chicago Mr. Gay 2008 competition. Shar took the crown from our buddy and FOF fave Erik R. Sosa in what turned out to be a racially divided contest. The contest seemed as though half the crowd which was black was cheering for Shar and the other half which was white was cheering for the other contest. It was a tense situation.

Luckily nothing erupted other than zealous cheering and gregarious stage drumming. It was wild to say the least and we are pleased that Shar won and was willing to come on today’s show to talk about the event and about himself and his quest for the crown.

Shar Devon loves the Feast of Fools and we love him too!Shar DeVon is a budding entrepreneur who is currently in the developmental stages of establishing 3 businesses - A fashion apparel line, an image consulting firm and a modeling agency exclusively for men.

Shar states that his goals during his year of service are to generate public awareness regarding comprehensive healthcare needs of the LGBT community, promote tolerance, change perception, break stereotypes and dispel stigmas surrounding homophobia in our society.

Listen as we chat with Shar about racial segregation inside and outside the gay community, how his favorite pet died, what it means to be a gay pageant winner and how he maintains his 27 inch waist. Yes, 27 inch waist. Yeow!

You can visit Shar at his MySpace account.

Video footage of the Mr. Gay competition is coming soon.

Just one more day until the People’s Choice Podcast Awards, and three more days until the live podcast in Los Angeles!

Entertaining you by any means necessary- Feast of Fools.

Goooood Luck, Mr. Devon with the…

U.S.A.

Mr. Gay!

Wonderful show as always folks. And Ace boon coon means BFF, something along that line.

GREAT SHOW!!!
I have to agree with you with the issues with the gay community.
As a young black gay man, there are so many misconceptions about black men.
Thanks for bringing this topic up.

I LOVE THE FOF!

Another Greate Show guys.

Congratulations Shar!!! I can’t wait for you to win nationals, and then internationals.

A couple times in the interview I had a “Reverend DJ” flashback.

Ace boon coon = partner in crime

Our friends have a cat named Coretta!

Next year, we’ll have to head over to Montrose Beach to check out the scene… after Pride this year we saw people walking that way, it was awesome to see such an out-and-proud black crowd passing by our place.

It was great to hear Shar on the show — I have been missing the FOF Rainbow coalition!
Hang in there, sweetie, and true love will come your way…

Being in a black/white longterm relationship, the interracial topic is always interesting to me. Last night me and the bf had dinner with the only other B/W longterm couple I know, the B part of which is from the US. Over here (Amsterdam) I think that there isn’t much of a divide along these lines in the gay scene, although when it comes to relationships, most people tend to go for someone who could be their clone in looks and personality. In general we do still have areas in the city that are predominantly black, white or Arabic but things are not as divided as they are in New York it seems. In my friends’ experience B & W might work together but live seperately in separate parts of the city. Not as much social mingling going on as movies and series want us to believe… And that’s just a shame, because apart from being very politically correct, interracial love and sex is just plain frikkin’ HOT!

Chicago is a very segregated city. So it’s reflected in the Chicago gay community as well… I’m always interested to hear more about this. When I first moved here, I was working in a 99% black neighborhood (see the segregated part?! wow) and living with 2 black roommates. I loved being the odd one out for a change. Then I went back to school at the art institute (where Chicago’s large black population is NOT represented in the student body, which I think is deplorable) and now I’m back in predominantly-white-land… sigh. I’d love to see more people from the black community on FOF, to hear about their experiences… Vernita Gray?

great show all

Shar is sooo Hot!!! Woo!

The show was very entertaining however I am confused on exactly what a person does to become Mr. Gay. Obviously it is not English. Ask should not be pronounced like axe! What is up with the horrible grammar. I know Mr. Gay needs to be hot but can he be hot and well versed?

what a sweet person Shar is! LOVE HIM!
