Gregg ShapiroFor over 20 years our local culture writer Gregg Shapiro has been keeping a journal of poetry written about his life and the three cities he’s lived in, Chicago, Boston and Washington D.C.

Today Gregg throws his hat into the ring as he debuts his first book “Protection” a collection of poems about the urban gay experience.

And today we wish him “bon voyage” as he sets out to travel the country promoting the book and hosting readings in the Southeastern United States.

If you stop by and say hi, Gregg will give you a special Feast of Fools present! Click here to follow him on his book tour.

Now you can create a website bookmark buttons on your iPhone's home screen, pretty nifty! The computer company formerly known as Apple Computer (it’s now just APPLE) today announced the new MacBook Air, which seems to be the “world’s smallest laptop.” It practically looks like a shiny piece of aluminum, and “fits inside an envelope.”

Also today Apple announced the worlds largest envelope. Just kidding. Still, people like my sister who want an ultra portable computer will be drooling over it, but I’d rather have a 15″ MacBook Pro laptop instead, thinness be damned!

What’s REALLY cute is they updated the iPhones today so you can make your own website bookmarks on your home screen. Clips will remember where you zoomed/panned to, and you are able to create up to 9 of them.

Don’t you think the Feast of Fools website would look splendid on your iPhone as a bookmark?

The gay podcast that keeps things hot and spicy, just the way you like it- Feast of Fools.

great poems gregg! you have got the sexiest voice!

I have to agree with Jarzium. And I’m not sure why Gregg doesn’t get offers all the time, I think he’s a cutie, and he’s got a hot voice…hell, I’d rather have him sign me than that book!!

;)

So today’s show was interesting. I enjoyed the poetry, and I’ll be picking up a copy of the book. Hey Gregg, don’t forget that Amazon now offers the ability to sell your book on the Kindle now too, in a digital format, you might want to check that out as well.

Also, Fausto and Marc, I don’t know if you knew about the associates program from Amazon, but you might want to check it out if you haven’t already. If you’d like to know more about it, I can tell you all about it.

Next, Netflix and Apple aren’t the only companies doing downloadable videos. Amazon released their Unbox service back in September of 06, which offers Movies and TV shows downloadable to your computer or TiVo DVR via high-speed internet. DVD-quality videos for as low as $1.99 (TV Episodes) and movies as low as $0.99 (rentals during the weekend sale).

I love it and I use that service all the time, because it’s backed by the best Customer Service in the world…in my opinion.

I can’t wait to hear the show tomorrow.

Gregg, if you ever get to the west coast/WA state area, let me know, I’d love to see ya and get your book signed.

We are part of the Amazon assoc. It feels like we practically beg people to buy through out links- Amazon, iTunes, Orbitz, its all there. I guess we need to figure out how to make it more clear. Anybody want to write some copy for us to drive the message home? I’ll send a tshirt to the best version.

Gregg, congratulations on the publication of your book! How exciting! Now you can start obsessively tracking the ranking on Amazon. (just kidding — don’t get sucked in!) I think the treatment of the cover art is interesting — it does make it like a comic strip; you can feel time ticking by between the frames. Very ominous. When/where is the Chicago reading & signing?

And speaking of comics, I can’t WAIT for the opening of Persepolis. I hope Gregg will be reviewing it.

Good luck on the book tour! I love all the bookstore names. How many puns can they make with the word “out”?

Always love to hear Gregg on the show. Sexy voice from a knowledgeable man who knows his stuff.
Gregg,
I’ll see you at Outwrite in February in Atlanta. Be sure to pack your shorts and flip flops. It will probably be in the 70s.

Or maybe your snowshoes. It is snowing in Hotlanta right now.

I had a Billy once.. what a tool.

Like I said, I think we all did. Mine had a nice smile but was evil to the core.

Loved your poetry readings Greg. I will try to stop by at your book signing in New York City Feb 2. I have 3 favorite black and white movies:
1. “Grand Hotel” - Greta Garbo’s best and the one where she says - “I want to be alone!”.
2. “Sunset Boulevard” - I am a huge Gloria Swanson fan. Each time I watch this movie I am mesmerized by her.
3. “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?” - the gayest movie ever filmed!

The poetry was great Greg. Congrats on the book tour. I’d come, but I live in SLC, Utah :( I don’t think there even is a gay bookstore here.

I live in Philadelphia, so I’m hoping to catch Gregg’s stop at Giovanni’s Room. That’s a nice venue because it’s small and cozy. I saw Christopher Rice there one time for a book reading/signing.

Congratulations on your book tour. I especially loved the way you slipped up twice when saying erection…too cute! I will be picking up your book and would love to meet you in person if you’re going to be in or around St. Louis. I thought I heard you list it as a stop for the latter part of the year. I hope so! Anyhoo.. Fav B&W is absolutely Casablanca. Unfortunately I am the only one within my friends and family so I usually end up watching it alone instead of hearing them complain and criticize through the whole thing. I think what I love the most about it, what made it work is that the script was never fully developed throughout production. They kept changing lines and the plot and the poor actors never really knew what was going to happen to their character. That wonderful tension that everyone has about wanting to get out of Casablanca and about the war seems genuine in part because the actors were frustrated. There was no time to really rehearse and get to that place where you understand and become your character. Hell it wasn’t until the last day that the writers decided on the ending. And I think that says a lot about the actors involved and their talent. Ok, ok…It’s also my fav cause I think Bogey is freakin’ hot. ummm yeah time to go….Good luck Gregg and safe travels.

Stupid laptop mouse always does whatever it wants….sorry thats posted twice guys.

You guys have been on a roll lately - have been seen smiling maniacally a lot in public due to the last couple of shows.

I always enjoy when Gregg is on the show, and now to hear your fantastic poems? Amazing! Much luck on the book tour!!

Don’t forget to stop by and say hi to Gregg on his book tour!

Thank you for all of the wonderful words of support.
I look forward to meeting the many Feast of Fools fans that are scattered across the country (and the world).
If you do come to one of the readings/signings, please make a point of introducing yourself to me.
Fausto and Marc have loaded me down with Feast of Fools buttons to give away to listeners.

Gregg - Terrific show. I enjoyed your poems and will come see in you at Bus Boys in Arlington, VA on the 28th. Their web site says it’s open mic night at 8 PM, hopefully you will read some there as well. I’d love to have you sign my book.

Drew
