Yet another amazing show, Jason, Marc & Fausto.

Loved the show, the question I posed came out of the fact that as I went to therapy I noticed that part of the reason I got in the habit of being whomever anyone wanted me to be, instead of trying to figure out what made me happy, was because I had to hide so many years because I was gay. The habit was so hard to break. It led to a lot of unhappiness in my early years, and led me to generally avoid all conflict because of it. That being said I think when I finally did come out and realize who I was, the stark contrast led me to become that much more proud of myself for making that final step.

However, I never could have done it without the help of the mature gay men who came into my life at that time and helped me through the coming out process. I don’t understand why the youngguns today don’t embrace and respect the amazingly intelligent, experienced, and talented generation of gay men who have come before us. For me, it was only through talking to the older gentlemen at the bar that I realized we are a gay COMMUNITY, not just a bunch of guys who go out to bars.

So I want to say thank you to all those mature divas and divos out there who have helped the young gays come to accept themselves and feel loved by a truly amazing community. And of course thank you to the FOF Crew, Fausto, Marc et al., I wish I had you guys when I was coming out, but I am glad that the fresh crop of young gays and lesbians have such open, honest, entertaining, and caring role models.

DCRyan, what an excellent post. And an excellent show guys.

Last night my leather club did a program on “Life Before Stonewall” and honored some of the older members of the LA leather and kink community by giving them a chance to tell their stories. It was an amazing evening. We had three gay men, one of which who was in New York at the time of Stonewall, and a straight woman who talked about the similarities of straight people living a kinky lifestyle in that era and the struggle gays and lesbians had to endure. It was an amazing program. I echo DCRyan’s statement that if you have a change to talk to and (gasp) befriend those in the older generation, your life will be so much richer.

Fausto, I know what you mean about reading the negative comments and feeling bad/wanting to cry. Just earlier today, this guy that obviously needs LOTS of therapy tried (again) to get me to hook up. After it became apparent that it wasn’t going to happen, he decided to imply that my partner had been coming onto him, and eventually he just freaked out, and said, “GO DIE OF AIDS! FAST!” I was just so shocked at, not only the immaturity of this person but also just the negativity of that comment. I always like to chat with people and a lot of them are very complimentary but you can’t help but dwell over the negative ones. It can really shake you up, ya know? Anywho, sorry to have gotten off on this little story, but I just wanted you to know–while there may be haters out there, there’s so many other people that love you. I love ya, honey. Stay weird.

Wonderful show - I wish I knew about DDT years ago - maybe I could’ve had real live friends instead of dreaming of the divas!!
