AYDS Helps You Lose Weight!

By Marc Felion on February 29, 2008 | Share & Save | Link | Print |

One of the longest running jokes on the Feast of Fools is the chocolate flavored candy that promotes weight loss- “Why take diet pills when you can enjoy AYDS.” Gosh, HOMOphones are so hilarious!

Thank you to Rick for finding this gem of a commercial that’s glory faded at the onslaught of the AIDS epidemic. Rick describes the commercial as “Before the dawn of AIDS, there was a similar-sounding product called AYDS. It was a diet candy that was heavily advertised on TV. I just found a few of the commercials on YouTube and… well… just remember that it’s important to be able to laugh at ourselves. This one is from 1982.”

What’s funny too is that some people never believed that this product even existed!

OMG that was fast!

Seriously though, I watch this and I am doubling over with laughter. “AYDS helped me get back into a size 12.” “Why take diet pills when you can enjoy AYDS?” I mean… ow… my sides!

This is hilarious in the wrongest possible way. “AYDS lets you taste, chew, and enjoy!”

I remember these commercials when I was in high school.
