Bobaloo aye! Bobaloo is NOT a Cuban spirit of illness and disease made famous in the song by Desi Arnaz, but rather a comedian and he’s on today’s show. Bobaloo joins us to share his experiences in the world of being a bear comic.
Bobaloo moved from Milwaukee to LA on a whim and he started his comedy career by taking a “Standup 101″ class at a GLBT center. He learned various comedy methods, but most importantly he learned how to tell personal real stories from his particular perspective.
As a comedian, there are a lot of horrible bars and venues to perform in and his first comedy performance at an open mic was in a basement where he followed a smelly homeless guy who screamed obscenities into the mic. The homeless guy bombed but Bobaloo ended up getting a good laugh from the audience as he pretended to disinfect the microphone. It was that first laugh that got him hooked and he’s been doing it every since.
We talk to Bobaloo about why Americans are so hung up on fat issues. Latinos are so much more comfortable with calling a fat person fat. A Latino will call you fat to your face but Americans shy away from it and even the whole Bear subculture name is indented as way NOT to say “fat and hairy.” Why are we so afriad to embrace who we are?
Are fat people crazy? A new study suggest that increased belly fat will lead to Alzheimer’s disease. Why this is, they aren’t really sure but if you are just fat in the belly area, you might want to consider dropping the weight or doing things like crossword puzzles to keep your mind active. Let’s see which method is more effective, some of eat all you want but do your Suduko and the rest of you, diet and exercise and watch The Real Housewives of New York City. Get back to me in fifty years and we’ll compare results.
Join us, Marc Felion and Fausto Fernos as we talk to Bobaloo about talk bears, chubs, pups, plushies, infantalism, sploshing and where to find the best Chinese all you can eat buffets.
Bobaloo is part of “Bears on the Run” which is FIVE bear performers touring the Northeast in April 2008! It is comedy and music with a bearish twist. Check out the Bears on the Run Tour to see if they are coming to a town near you!

I had fun hearing Bobaloo’s thoughts and the “building of a comedic pedigree” as it were.
Also, upon hearing he was in an open relationship made me think of sage advice my friend wrote into a blog about her friends in an open relationship: “Going into an open relationship is a lot like joining the marines; People who just sort end up there tend to do fine, but people who go into it with a great amount of zeal (”If I join the marines, it will make me a real man!” “If I go into an open relationship, I’ll get all the sex I want and still have the love/stability of a partner”) tend to destroy themselves and several people around them.
