By Fausto Fernós on October 10, 2008 | Share & Save | Link | Print |
Only 25 days until the country elects Barak Obama as president! Okay, so I’m an optimist.
On today’s show Jim Bennet, the funny man from GayCo, Second City’s gay offspring comes to dish it up about politics.
They’re teaming up with Schadenfreude, another local sketch comedy group to put together a sizzling new show “This Country is F$cked,” an evening of election-themed comedy, music and videos.
Listen as we talk with Jim about dragging his comedian friends out of the closet, his thoughts on Sarah Palin wanting to play Tina Fey and White People for Obama.

FOF #855 - Levi Kreis Live! - 10.09.08
By Fausto Fernós on October 9, 2008 | Share & Save | Link | Print |
Raise the roof y’all! Levi Kreis is in the house and there’s a whole lotta shaking going on.
Forgive my corny pun, but the dazzling singer and piano rocker is in Chicago at the Goodman theater co-starring in the new musical “Million Dollar Quartet” about the legendary Sun records jam session that took place on December 4, 1956, when four of popular music’s most extraordinary talents (Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley) all in their creative prime, came together for a night of music that would help lay the foundation for rock and roll.
Levi Kreis embodies the rebellious musician Jerry Lee Lewis in the show, wowing audiences both with his on and off piano acrobatics both and the power of his raw, passionate voice.
In many ways Levi carries the essence of the musical legend both in his rejection of his Baptist conservative upbringing but still embracing it’s musical roots. Levi Kreis was expelled from his Baptist University for questioning the Bible’s take on homosexuality and Jerry Lee Lewis also challenged the moral code of his day.
Click here to get tickets to see “Million Dollar Quartet.”
When we last talked to Levi, he was on tour across the country with his new album “The Gospel According to Levi” and shared with us a frank look at his life and his relationships.
You’re in for a treat today! Levi super-soaks us with his music and his voice, performing live in the home studio his hits and songs from his upcoming album “Where I Belong” scheduled to be released in January 2009.
Levi is one of those rare musicians who’s sassy personality equally matches his mastery of the piano and the power of his music is delivered by his showmanship.
Having people like Levi on the show is what keeps me personally going. He’s such a dazzling musician, charming personality and a whole lot of fun. We wish the show didn’t have to end, and neither will you.
Levi is also giving away a free song from his upcoming album to all the subscribers of the Feast Blast- click here to subscribe.
Levi shares with us every delicious morsel of music that he has in his body, as he spends over an hour chatting with us about his unusual career and how he reconciles his religious upbringing.
Goodness gracious it’s Feast of Fools!

FOF #854 - Round Two, Obama Vs. McCain - 10.08.08
By Marc Felion on October 8, 2008 | Share & Save | Link | Print |
Ding ding, Round Two! Barak Obama and John McCain face-off once again in the fight for America’s Presidency, stabilizing the economy and our hearts.
What was up with that red carpet? It hurt my eyes!
Wasn’t it great when Tom Brockaw told McCain to get out of the way so he could finish the show?
Obama came across once again as eloquent, well informed and level headed. Is America ready to have a competent leader? I think so, Yes we can! Nail McCain to the wall Obama!
What does the sound of a failing political campaign sound like? “TERRORISM!” Last weekend Gov. Palin and Sen. McCain both directly declared their political opponent associated with terrorists and even scoff indifferently when their supporters jokingly threatened to kill Senator Obama. Is this what the election has boiled down to?
One way the Republicans can win this election is to simply lock away Sen. Obama in Guantanamo bay, but as Harold and Kumar showed in their movie, it’s way easy to escape.
I went with Michael Lehet to see the Scooty and JoJo’s Carpenter’s Halloween, a reenactment of Halloween John Carpenter’s Halloween set to the music of the Carpenters. It’s truly an odd mix of horror and camp. If you are a fan of camp, drag, the movie Halloween or the music of the Carpenters then this is a must see for you.
Get your tickets now if you want good seats. Also, the set is in FULL COLOR and you won’t believe how good it looks!
Michael and I also saw Watch Out based on Joseph Suglia’s book that features the super sexy Matt Riddlehoover as narcissistic Jonathan Burrows, who is only sexually attracted to himself and even makes love to a blow up doll that looks like himself.
Through Jonathan’s journey we encounter many strange characters, all of whom are sexually attracted to the very handsome protagonist but in who he has no interest whatsoever. He delivers a condescending diatribe against them about why he would never find them attractive and even kills some of them. This movie is a totally over the top cross between Strangers with Candy and Jeffrey Dahlmer.
Michael convinced me to go the Improv Everywhere’s MP3 Chicago which I initially didn’t want to go because it sounded a bit hokey- I was to download an mp3 audio file, be at a specific location and do what ever it told me to do at a precise time. Now, I’ve seen enough X-Files or Twilight Zone episodes to know how terribly wrong things like this can go. For all I know it could have turned me into a government assassin.
But, after a long night partying with Miss Tracy Tyler we all hopped in the car and experienced what turned out to be a very fun day. Sometimes it is fun to do just let yourself go and let someone else call the shots. And I totally kicked ass in the Epic Battle.
Listen as we talk about the bizarre Anglican Reverend Peter Mullen, who suggests tattooing gay men’s butts with health warning signs. How about tattooing priests faces with “Religion can seriously damage your mental health.”
What’s the secret to the Beckhams beautiful skin? Bird Poop! Yes, they are both getting sh*tfaced for beauty. Its an exotic beauty treatment for Japan.
Nailing the Jell-O to the wall every time- Feast of Fools.

FOFA #632 - Candy Corn - 10.07.08
By Marc Felion on October 7, 2008 | Share & Save | Link | Print |
Ah candy corn. This delicious but deadly candy confection connotes images of the fall in the United States, of childhood and our beloved neo-pagan holiday, Halloween.
Thanks to a growing acceptance of weird things in our culture, Halloween has grown in a big way to rival Christmas as American’s favorite holiday. For many queer folks, it’s the first time they don a drag outfit and explore what it’s like to dress up as a man or a woman. For me, it’s a chance to do really weird things in the name of Holiday Spirit. You should see me at a Christmas party. “Is that mistletoe above your camel-toe?”
One of the best things about living in Chicago is our local, small and low-key Halloween parade centered in the heart of the gay part of town, Lakeview. Also known as Boystown, the modest parade attracts people from all walks of life, but a good percentage of the audience is Korean tourists. Don’t ask me why, it just is.
Here’s a picture of me with Saan Huan, a costume-less, Korean Christian minister who somehow made his way to Boystown last year and was acting all weird around us, but somehow wouldn’t stop following us with his camera.
We invited him to hang with us for the rest of the night. It all turned bad when he thought we were putting drugs in his beer.
I love to dress up as a combo of any costume and a vampire, because it’s sexy and weird all at the same time and because it’s an excuse to bite someone on the neck! Last year I was a knight in shining armor + vampire. This year I think I’ll get myself a cowboy gear and be a cowboy vampire.
Amanda’s Halloweens turn out to be like Charlie Brown’s Christmases. One costume idea Amanda had is to take a cardboard box and turn it into a Rubix cube. Another year she had nothing to wear and so she took her purple curtains and turned it into an awkward puple ghost costume that unintentionally offended a lot of people. Think the Teletubbies meets the Klu Klux Klan.
Here’s a bad costume idea: go as a “blind” date (a date wearing dark sunglasses). Be prepared for everyone to ask you if you are Ray Charles or Hellen Keller.
Marc suggests wearing underwear, wrapping yourself up in salami and saran wrap and going as leftovers. I think he just wants to wear a costume he can eat.
Another cheap, messy and dramatic costume idea is going as the classic Sissy Spacek character Carrie. Just put on a nightgown, a blond wig and a tiara, then drop a bucket of fake blood on yourself at an inappropriate time.
But the best costume you can wear 365 days a year is as a Feast of Fools fan! Get your black t-shirt here now. Click here to see a fabulous photo gallery of people wearing the shirts. Send your photos in now!
Listen as Amanda Steinstein joins Marc Felion and me, Fausto Fernós to talk about Halloween news, cake-sitting, offending witches, sex parties in Canada. Are you invited?

FOFA #508 - Lizz with Two Z’s - 10.06.08
By Fausto Fernós on October 6, 2008 | Share & Save | Link | Print |
You may not immediately recognize Lizz’s name, but you probably enjoy the fruits of her labor.
Comedian and television producer Lizz Winstead created the news parody program “The Daily Show” on Comedy Central as a response to CNN’s paradigm shifting coverage of the first War in Iraq in the early 90s. Since it’s inception the show has become a major source for people’s news despite the fact that it’s a comedy show.
Lizz chats with us about about how The Daily Show was conceived, their original choice for host and wether she ever got an apology from Craig Kilborn about the nasty comment that got him suspended.
Ms Winstead has a had a lot of odd jobs, from working at the Red Barn to the relaunch team for Broadway Production of Grey Gardens She has come up with fantastic taglines for the show including “What’s wrong with snacking on a little cat food in your bathing suit?-Grey Gardens, The Musical” She highly recommends the show so get your tickets now.
It’s funny that Lizz takes us to task (and by surprise) for asking in a previous post why her good friend pornographer Chi Chi LaRue is on OUT Magazine’s “Power 50″ Who would have thought that this funny lady has a pornographer as a friend? It turns out they are friends from their days in Minnesota. Lizz lets us know that it might not be that ChiChi has made a gazzillion dollars in skin flicks that put him on the list but rather as top gay pornographer he knows where all the gay bodies are buried.
We like Lizz and what she has to say about the podcast genre. She thinks podcasts are comedically funnier than radio and TV. The word itself is funny and the medium is fresh.
Lizz blogs from time to time on the Huffington Post and you can befriend her on myspace.

Come Join us for our Special Reality TV Show Screening!
By Marc Felion on October 4, 2008 | Share & Save | Link | Print |
Kids, say hello to your new mommy!
Teri Yaki’s been working hard to transform herself into Amanda Steinstein, for our very special What Not to Wear/Feast of Fools viewing party at Hydrate in Chicago on Oct 17 (yes, the date changed from the 10th)
Watch on a jumbo screen as Fausto Fernós and Marc Felion raid Amanda’s closest, try on some of her clothes, stalk her around town and then surprise her with a makeover in this reality TV show.
We spent many days this summer being the concerned friends, stalking Amanda Steinstein even breaking into her apartment while she was gone to ruffle through her wardrobe, costumes and tiaras. Yes, tiaras.
The crew told us that our episode is probably the gayest one ever and that Amanda was the most challenging person (read:worst dressed) they have ever had on the show.
This is a must watch episode- plus, prizes, games, gifts and giveaways! I didn’t happen to mention the bar is “hosted” did I? Glug glug!

FOF #853 - Horror Movies Every Gay Man Must See - 10.02.08
By Fausto Fernós on October 2, 2008 | Share & Save | Link | Print |
Look out behind you! Do not go in there! Watch out! You always see it coming, but somehow, the victim in many horror films is always ridiculously unaware that they are about to be bludgeoned to death. Why is that?
On today’s show we’ve got movie maven Peaches Christ talking with us about Horror Movies every gay man must see.
Why are queers so enamored by the horror film genre? Is it the themes of being an outsider seeking revenge on the world or is it the joy of seeing the jocks and cheerleaders hacked into pretty little pieces.
But is this a genre an unsuitable outlet for teen angst after the tragic events at schools like Columbie or Viginia Tech?
Listen as we talk with Peaches about films like Rosemary’s Baby, Silence of the Lambs, Nightmare on Elmstreet, Fright Night and Evil Dead.
Is Bruce Campbell a gay icon? Do the two Corrys suffer from Mather’s syndrome? And what is the queen of all horror films?
Plus a special surprise- Peaches reveals everything about her upcoming slasher film. Who are the celebrity stars cast in this exciting new move? Listen to the show if you vant to know.
