Musician Tom Goss talks about almost becoming a Catholic priest on the Feast of Fools podcastTom Goss has finally found his voice and it sounds like heaven.

Tom was a star high-school wrestler and entered college on a wrestling scholarship. For lack of better direction, he studied to be a social studies teacher. He eventually decided to become a Catholic priest as a way to channel his desire for reconciliation and social justice.

Tom entered the seminary but became disillusioned by the institution in which he had placed his faith. He fell in love with a fellow seminarian but he didn’t leave the seminary until he was stalked by another fellow seminarian.

When the stalking escalated, Tom turned him in and he got him kicked out of the seminary. Tom left of his own accord at that time and says he is still stalked by this guy to this day.

Today he’s happy, in love and a rising star in the national gay music scene. He’s been touring the country with his pal Eric Himan and singing his songs about rebirth and renewal, of love and loss and what lies beyond.

There’s not a bad song in the album. He may not be the priest in any church, but he’s the priest of rock and roll to me and I wouldn’t mind being his altar boy!

    what a beautiful show. i completely lost it on the train this morning with the very emotional end of the show. Tom’s story about his grandfather was beautiful, and is something I also recently experienced. What a beautiful way of carrying on someone’s legacy.

    “Whoa” I said softly and unbeknowingly outloud. I got so lost in the entertaining yet quit deep show today I completly dissociated from my work and said whoa outloud and someone next to me heard me and I was a little embarassed. Great show today guys. The three of you made such a varied yet real show I just soaked it all in with marc’s tissue joke to tom’s intence stories what else to express myself about the show then….”Whoa”

    Thanks guys - wow, Tom is such a sweetheart and his music and stories are amazing - I saw him and Eric here in Washington at Sollys and briefly got to meet Tom - wonderful show and I learned that Tom used to be a barrista at Starbucks here on U Street, right around the corner from my house! You guys rock and I make sure to listen to every show and recommend FOF to all my friends.

    Fausto,

    Curious to know more about the book you mentioned about Washington, DC. As to the stripper laws, the law is explicit that women have to wear pasties and other factors that cover up their bodies; however, the law is absolutely silent on male nudity.

    Therefore, anything goes and boy did people exploit those opportunities. Unfortunately, there are few if any male stripper bars left since the “sex block” in Southwest DC was turned into a Baseball Stadium!

    Finally finished listening to the show, and all I can say is wow- not only is Tom adorably sexy and sweet, he is an amazing songwriter. His songs moved me to tears even before I got to the end.

    And he’s from my hometown, Kenosha! HOW COOL IS THAT? :)

    His stories about his family and their traditions at Christmastime are so very similar to mine. Italians really do wear their hearts on their sleeves, and I can see Tom’s a mile away. And they have such strong ties to family. When he told the story about selling his grandfather’s house, I absolutely lost it. We’re in the (very very slow) process of getting my parents’ house ready to eventually sell, and as I look through those rooms I think of all the memories those walls have seen.

    Thanks for this very special show. Definitely one of my new favorites!!!

    It is illegal to give a dog whiskey.
    It is forbidden to fish while sitting on a giraffe’s neck.
    Kites may not be flown within the city limits.
    In the Pullman area, it is illegal to drink beer out of a bucket while sitting on the curb.
    It is legal to protest naked in front of city hall as long as you are under seventeen years of age and have legal permits.

    I just started crying at the end of this show, boy that was intense. Fausto & Marc keep up the great work and bring Tom back on, when he can make it. I sure do love his music and the way he really gives thaught to what he says before he does. Or do you recall anyone answering “What happens to us when we die?” in a more elaborate way he did? I don’t.

    What a complete package!!! He is hot, cute, fun, smart and very talented. How could I forgot the BEST part. He loves to wrestle!!!! Fausto and Marc, please hook a brother up! It’s just a simple and innocent wrestling match for stakes.
    Thanks for a great show. You always pick a diverse group of gay individuals. This is one of my favorite podcasts of 2008 and I am usually bias to the ones with Sal-E.

    Dear Fausto, Mark & Tom Goss,

    This was one of those shows that had me enthralled to the point I let work calls go to voice mail while I am at work. Interviews like this keep me a loyal fan and make me think that you guys are truly helping in defining what it means to be Queer. This show made me feel “OK”. Thanks and keep up the good work.

    Thank you Tom Goss for sharing your views of religion, your coming to terms with religion mirror my own. It is nice to know that I am not the only person with the same thoughts about “God”. Keep inspiring those people looking for answers by being you.

    Tom is an amazing talent, and I feel privileged to seen him live twice with the amazing Eric Himan in Philly. Not only is he handsome, but he is a gifted talent, and a hellacious songwriter. His lyrics are honest and moving, so it is no surprise his interview be filled with the same candor. It doesn’t hurt he is also just a sweet and good man, so nice to chat with after the show. I have both CDs, and look for many more to come.

    WOW! That last song about your grandfather. I don’t know how you can sing something so personal and not disolve into a weepy mess. I was so mooved.
