Gay men are living longer than ever and we need to make sure we continue to keep the healthy bodies we’ve enjoyed in our younger years.
After all, life doesn’t end at forty.
On today’s show we’re talking to Dr. Frank Spinelli, your gay doctor about his brand new book “The Advocate Guide to Gay Men’s Health and Wellness.”
Dr. Frank joins us to talk about why some gay men abuse drugs, transmit sexual diseases and how to keep romance hot well into your golden years.
Dr. Frank says one of the most important things you can do with your doctor is to come out as a gay man. Simply say “Doctor, I’m gay.” But for many of us, we shy away from doing that because we fear being judged or worse, being looked at as a freak because we don’t necessarily share the same sexual orientation as our doctor.
Thankfully, Dr. Frank is gay and fabulous! You can check out his MySpace page here.
Listen up folks, this podcast just might save your life!
The Advocate Guide to Gay Men’s Health and Wellness is a fabulous book that covers all the questions you may want to ask your doctor. It makes a great beside or bathroom book.
I believe that the single most important thing to improve the sexual health of all people in America is for the next President to push in congress a Universal Health Care plan for all people. The reality is that too many people living in the U.S. wait to the last minute to see a doctor because they simply cannot afford it.
I can only imagine the lives that would be saved and the improvement in transmission rates of all sexually transmitted diseases if we all had the same access to health care that almost all western nations enjoy.
For many of Americans, access to adequate health care is sketchy at best and I urge you to get Dr. Frank’s book (it’s $22 on Amazon) to educate yourself about the perils we face as gay men and also about some of the rewards and pleasures we’ve worked so hard to enjoy.
That being said, I urge you to save up and go see a doctor. There are many clinics in most urban areas that offer services on a sliding scale.
Your Dr. Feelgood for your podcasting regimen- Feast of Fools.

I really enjoyed this interview with Dr. Frank. it was not only informative but it was nice to see what a great personality he has…and I think ever one us wishes he was our doctor!

How about universal testing for STDs and wiping out the epidemics.
For example, more knowledge about people exposed and don’t get
infected would help other people not get infected.
jimberly says:
Please explain how we would implement universal testing for STDs - testing the entire population for a host of infections on a regular basis would be no easy trick, so I am curious how you would suggest this happen.
the zak says:
Universal testing is not likely and doesn’t even make sense.
Not enough people die from STDs to make it worthwhile.
There’s no universal testing for cancer or heart disease,
so testing for a considerably lesser disease is not likely.

I can’t Believe you did the accent…………I keep rewinding it………I can so see you do it and squinting you eyes while you do it. You made me giggle!
I think Dr. Frank looks like Freddy Prince Jr.
He is so HOT!
I would fake being sick just to see him.
Love ya

Matt says:
Great Show. Dr. Frank was hot and very intelligent. I love doctors, what with a doctor fetish and all, you can imagine that I love going to the doctor. I agree with the patients flirting and all, I mean you are getting naked for a guy who wont buy you dinner or call you the next morning or stay all night and make you pancakes when all’s you really wanted was a little fun. Its like the perfect fing, in a sorta medical, one sided sorta way. Loved it! I am going to get the book the next time I go to the local super big, corporate chain, bookstore.
SAM469 says:
I especially enjoyed this podcast. I had a very good gay doctor while I lived in DC and I miss the feeling of openness since I moved back to Northern Jersey near NYC. I have a doctor that I am out to but the relationship is not the same.
Jon-Paul was right, I do wish he was my doctor. If I do not find one close to me perhaps Chelsea is not too far to go for a good physician. I good doctor-patient relationship is one of the keys to good health. I ordered Dr. Frank’s book and I am looking forward to my partner and I reading it.
the zak says:
What are his a) certifications in what medical specialty or specialties, what b) schools and c) background information is there?… about this interesting physician/writer

SAM469 says:
Physician profiles are easily found through the state’s main website where the physician practices.
http://www.ny.gov/
Or you could google the name.
the zak says:
Obviously the doctor was reacting to a sterotype.
On the other hand, many people in monogamous relationships
discover they haven’t been when their mate leaves them for
another person–or they actually discover an affair.
That is part of hetero culture when a gay man says the word
monogamy. It’s a kind of prejudice.
