Peaches Christ at the Movies!Look out behind you! Do not go in there! Watch out! You always see it coming, but somehow, the victim in many horror films is always ridiculously unaware that they are about to be bludgeoned to death. Why is that?

On today’s show we’ve got movie maven Peaches Christ talking with us about Horror Movies every gay man must see.

Why are queers so enamored by the horror film genre? Is it the themes of being an outsider seeking revenge on the world or is it the joy of seeing the jocks and cheerleaders hacked into pretty little pieces.

But is this a genre an unsuitable outlet for teen angst after the tragic events at schools like Columbie or Viginia Tech?

Listen as we talk with Peaches about films like Rosemary’s Baby, Silence of the Lambs, Nightmare on Elmstreet, Fright Night and Evil Dead.

Is Bruce Campbell a gay icon? Do the two Corrys suffer from Mather’s syndrome? And what is the queen of all horror films?

Evil Dead Poster with Bruce Campbell holding a chainsawPlus a special surprise- Peaches reveals everything about her upcoming slasher film. Who are the celebrity stars cast in this exciting new move? Listen to the show if you vant to know.

I’ve always loved scary movies. The Evil Dead has always been a cult favorite for me. I remember when I first saw bits in pieces of it when I used to live in Mexico; it was called “El Despertad de el Diablo, roughly translated “The Awakening of the Devil.” LOL. I must have been in third grade when Evil Dead 2 came out and I was really scared back then that my mom had to take me out of the movies (not knowing how funny Evil Dead 2 was in comparison to the first one. Good show you guys. I am glad that you guys are up and running again. Talk about having me scared for a while.

Hey, there is little wonder horror stories appeal to gay men - both Bram Stoker (creator of Dracula) and the B&W film director James Whale (Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, The Invisible Men) were gay, after all, and they are some of the greatest names in the history of horror. I have always been a great fan of vampire stories and movies, too - in fact, I was a bit disappointed you guys didn’t mention Interview with the Vampire on the podcast. :P

Spot-ON analysis on why gays/outcasts in general love horror flicks. I never gave it a second thought but your words made it crystal clear- like Paul Revere’s bell on that night in 1775…
Loving you guys big time, long time, all the time.

Oh wow.

I desperately want to see the Peaches Christ movie. I feel like it will be too fabulous for words. I will love it if it is a mere camp classic, or an oscar-winning horror spectacular. I am sure many other people will love it too, because Peaches is wonderful and everything about her descriptions made me tingle (and I don’t think she had time to wire my chair, but peaches is anything if not resourceful).

Delightful summaries and titillating teasers. A splendorous show!

One of our listeners Kev wrote in:

“It’s funny when you speak about the gay subtext in “Fright Night”- Stephen Geoffries who becomes a vampire in the film actually became a gay porn actor afterwards. And of course, the gayest of the gay Roddy McDowell has a lead role in the film.”

I had NO idea he of all people became a gay porn star! Who would have thunk it?

Peaches is my favorite out-of-town guest. When he’s on it’s always a great show. Thank you! Please keep them coming.

Thanks to everyone for their great comments!

Once again, I had a blast doing the show with Marc and Fausto. And this has to be one of my all time favorite topics of discussion. There are so many more horror films that should have been on the list!!!

Well, we’ll have to do a part 2 and 3 and 4 ……

Thanks and it’s always a pleasure Peaches!

I love Peaches. And I love horror movies so it is a perfect combination.
Marc, I would recommend Black Christmas for your Christmas viewing. It stars Margot Kidder, Andrea Martin, and Olivia Hussey about a bunch of sorority girls being picked off one by one over the Christmas holiday. Very Creepy but definitely old school. One Christmas Eve, Glen and I watched the Bad Seed as we wrapped presents.

Fausto, were you thinking about that horrible Lauren Hutton/Jim Carrey movie “Once Bitten” with the shower scene of the 2 guys trying to look at Jim Carrey’s crotch? Here’s a link to the scene I am talking about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mq2RITNMUmQ

I think I will watch the Bad Seed this year to change it up some! Thanks for the tip.

I am with Marcin on being disappointed by one of you not mentioning Interview With The Vampire on the podcast. It is a classic and was well done.

Interview With The Vampire Trailer

Interview with a Vampire doesn’t really appeal to me as a horror. It’s more of a Gothic romance than anything else. Did you find it scary?

We did mention it in pre-prodcution while deciding what movies to center on and we decided only one vampire flick so it lost out to Fright Night- sorry Tom and Brad.

I’ve always loved horror even as a young kid. Thank you for having Peaches on the show to discuss some of her faves. Good solid choices for sure, and as always tons of stuff beneath the surface you could add. Peaches is my favorite guest simply because I am such a movie nut! More Peaches please!!!!

One of the most interesting thing to me is how horror movies make bad guys (and gals) out of the queer community. Peaches brought it up with the analysis of NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, and of course SILENCE OF THE LAMBS is loaded with it. I remember an ’80s flick called TERROR TRAIN where the killer was also a transsexual, or at least a drag queen. PSYCHO had a cross-dressing killer who couldn’t have sex with women, The list is really endless when you look at it. Brian De Palma followed up CARRIE with DRESSED TO KILL in which Michael Caine also took a turn stabbing people in a dress.

I would add these to your Halloween viewing to balance some of it out:

THE HUNGER - Catherine Deneuve puts the moves on Susan Sarandon in one of the best lesbian vampire love scenes ever filmed.

HELL BENT - a gay slasher flick set in West Hollywood on Halloween. Somewhat silly, but truly a neat twist on the slash ‘em up genre for the queer set.

LET SLEEPING CORPSES LIE - a Spanish take on Romero’s zombie movies done with a touch more style and some sexier sequences.

THE SEVENTH VICTIM - a movie Val Lewton (CAT PEOPLE) did about satanists that rivals ROSEMARY’S BABY for creepy horror.

I don’t really think of Interview With A Vampire as a great horror movie, but I did think it was a great movie. I don’t know. I guess anything with vampires in it should technically be “horror” but to me it felt more like an epic historical drama fantasy film that dabbles in horror.

Anyhow, there were LOADS of movies that should have been on the list and Marc is right about us needing to do a SEQUEL! Definitely The Hunger and Psycho should be added to our next line-up.

F’ing gold everytime you have Peaches on. The chemistry and the conversation is incredible!

You guys were talking about Carrie. Sissy worked on DePalma’s earlier film PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE as a set-decorator. Sissy’s husband was also art director for CARRIE. She was originally slated to play the role of Chris (the bitch who gets slapped by Betty Buckley). She no showed for TV commercial shoot to audition one final time. She showed up in a threadbare sailor costume with her hair slicked back with Vaseline and blew everyone away.

I feel a little tingle every time I talk to Peaches X. Def. a time for a sequel!

How did we forget Psycho? It was on our list too!

sooo I loved the show and the list. The only movie I hadn’t seen from that list was Sleepaway Camp and I watched it tonight. Effin Brilliant! OMG I was floored with that ending. Good job y’all!

I rate this as one of your best shows ever! I am a big horror movie fan and can hardly wait for Peaches movie. She was a terrific guest.

i turned fort funston into a horror playground filled with roving packs of rabid dogs and their mad dog walkers while listening to this yesterday.

thanks for the halloween spirit.
