Nick Starr feels more comfortable text messaging than he does placing a phone call. Watching him work his iPhone, I see that his text message function gets used a whole lot. As an internet junkie Nick embraced texting early on, before it became many people’s primary form of communication.
He was also one of the first podcasting super-fans, actively participating as a listener and informal contributor in many of the online shows we now know as podcasts.
Nick sold his blackberry cell phone and a listener bought it and sent his gay online personal ads to be ridiculed for the world to hear.
Later he came into the national spotlight when he attempted suicide and micro-blogged about it on Twitter. He got a lot of sympathy from his friends, family and an in-depth article about the experience in the New York Times.
Today Nick is looking great and living a healthy, happy life as an openly gay man in San Francisco.
Listen as we talk with Nick about cyber-bullying, guilt over what turns us on and the future of podcasts and online communities.
Ernest Borgine, star of such classics as The Poseidon Adventure and Marty credited the secret to his longevity to masturbating. The 91 year old actor told Fox and Friends that he likes to release the pressure in hushed tones but it was picked up by his mic. Love that Ernest-ness!
The Internet and television is all a buzz about what’s on US Olympic champion Michael Phelps’ iPod. He seems to never be with out it in photos these days. Could he be listening to Feast of Fools? I don’t know but the idea of him spending some time listening to Tracy’s sexy stories, or Sal-E take on the nightlife, or even Amanda’s sci fi geek tangents makes me giddy.
Finally a president you would want to see shirtless! Photos of Barack Obama playing in the surf in Hawaii are making the rounds. Maybe Obama took a page from former Russian president Vladimir Putin and decided to sex up his image by appearing shirtless. We We hope and pray that McCain doesn’t do the same.

Great show, awesome to be talked about. Just wanted to clarify, the picture of me is not air brushed. You can access the exif data on my other site http://www.piczarphoto.com. That’s what I look like, used a fisheye lens with wireless strobe to get that look but no air brushing or touching up whatsoever.
Again, great show, awesome to get to hear Nick’s voice since, as you discovered, he doesn’t talk on the phone to… well anyone really!

Oh lord, first of all guys, i am so happy to hear you again. I was without internet connection at work for 2 damn weeks, HORRIBLE!! and i was not able to listen to you. It was like missing a friend, i swears :oP
So, Nick, uhmm, i dunno, i got a weird vibe from you, like you say u don’t like to talk to people that is why u text but then u say you wanted to move to SF to be in all the parties, etc, weird.
Anyway, miss you a lot Marc and Fausto xD

To Valhum’s point…I think it was addressed in the show, but I am not much of a person who likes to talk “on the phone”…. I am better face to face or thru text (whether it be im, sms, email, twitter, etc)
..and it isn’t that I don’t like to talk on the phone b/c of any reason other then it is just as easily for me to get what I want to say across via sms. Why pay the extra $40/month for a voice plan which I was using maybe 15 minutes a month for?
valhum says:

Lol, i get you. In my case, here in Mexico calling comes with the plan and texting is an extra fee and still, every call and text cost 10 US cents so i like to call better than text, it is faster haha :oP

That’s so funny. I’ve actually been thinking of asking her to come on and the show sometime. If we can talk to Shirley Phelps, we can talk to Anne Coulter.
I really want to know why she thinks John Edwards is a “fag.”

I’m not sure I understand …. was this (nick) some sort of phenomenon? If so, I totally missed it. Seems like much ado about nothing.

Joost, are you Dutch? If so, then yes, twitter suicide would not be interesting to you since assisted suicide is so common in the Netherlands.

I’m well acquainted with Patrick from NLO and I belive his nastiness stems from his self loathing brought on by his morbid obesity. Nicks just one of many in a long line that he’s bullied.

Hmm…
For a person who says he doesn’t care what people think of him…this guy seems to do/say a lot to explain himself/save face. There have to be more interesting people to interview in Las Vegas…right?

We all care what people think about us, but I think what Nick is trying to say is that he’s hoping to move beyond obsessing on others negativity.

OMG Nick has lost so much weight.
I remember when we met him at the media expo, this “straight” boy with a very limp wrist quickly picked up on me, marc, and fausto. But I am not surprised that his blackberry would be the thing that outed him, he was showing off his iPhone completely packed with porn with book marks on squirt.
Anyway Nick, I am so happy you are out and doing well.
