Can’t all religions be a merit based? Rashmila Shakya, a Nepalese Hindu “living deity” is calling it quits this week, deciding to hang up her arms and gowns to pursue a normal life. I say “you go girl.”
I feel sorry for any child that gets elevated to the role of religious figure just for the hell of it, because they are the reincarnation of so-and-so or some other far-out reason. I thought Buddhists were supposed to be cool, so why do they rob the cradle just to find their next leader? Wouldn’t it be a better idea to pick someone with intelligence and experience? I wonder what would happen if their leader developed some sort of bipolar disorder, mental retardation or odd habit later in life? Read more…
