We had such a great time last week at the Chicago premeire of RuPauls new movie “Starrbooty.” The hilarious edgy movie takes RuPaul’s 1983 cult film one step further by introducing some great fighting action sequences and raunchy gratuitous nudity. There are definitively moments in the film that refernece the work of Russ Meyers(Faster Pussycat Kill Kill), Paul Verhoven (Showgirls) and John Waters (Female Trouble, Hairspray). I smell an underground hit.

After the screening we headed over for a special Reeling Karaoke party and caught director and photographerMike Ruiz outside of Goose Island in Wrigleyville to talk about directing “Starrbooty.” It was SO windy outside!
In this video the buffed and charming Mike Ruiz talks about how surprisingly easy it was to direct the film “Starrbooty” all he had to do is let the cameras roll, stand back and let the hilarity unfold. It takes a strong man to direct all these legendary drag queens.
