Mekole Wells wants to get into Oprah Winfrey’s The Color Purple musical here in Chicago BAD. We here at the FOF think Mekole would be a fabulous Shug Avery screaming out “You Sure is Ugly!”
What is your favorite line from “The Color Purple” film?
Mekole Wells began her carreer (like most divas) singing in Church. In the 1980’s Mekole under the name “Eleesa” hit the billboard charts with her dance hit “Where Did Your Love Go.”
In 1998 Mekole was stabbed 10 times in a vicious attack her throat was cut she was told she would probably never be able to sing again, but through love, strength and sheer will she now stands as one of Chicago’s greatest onstage signing women.
An out and proud lesbian you can find Mekole singing weekly in“Menopause the Musical” at the Apollo Theater in Chicago, Illinois.
Join Mekole and our good friend Gregg Shapiro as we dish the dirt on Chicago’s music scene, lesbian music, menopause, the Gay Games, and why Mekole wants to be cast in “The Color Purple” musical.
Oprah are you listening?
All my life I’ve had to fight to download the Feast of Fools podcast.
