Alpana SinghIn the camp classic Myra Brenkinridge, Mae West sang that to experience life fully “You’ve gotta taste all the fruit, you’ve gotta drink all the wine.” And boy do we like to enjoy life fully!

On today’s show, Alpana Singh, the youngest female master sommelier in the world, returns to talk about what’s hot to drink this summer? Well, what’s hot is chilled wines.

Fausto Fernós and Alpana SinghAfter touring Greece, Alpana gained a new appreciation for chilled light Greek wines. Alpana says it’s OK to drink any lighter reds chilled in the summer. She suggests that a chilled bottle of Beaujolais, like the one we had after the taping of this show at Big Jones would be great on a hot summer day.

Alpana Singh works as the Director of Wine and Spirits for Lettuce Entertain You Restaurants and is the host of the Emmy Award winning restaurant review television show, “Check, Please!” which airs weekly on WTTW Channel 11. In case you don’t live in the Chicago, check out some of their video clips here: checkplease.tv

Fausto gives George Takei a big kiss as we kick off the Chicago Pride Parade 2006.Did you hear? George Takei (Sulu on the Star Trek TV series and films) and his longtime partner Brad Altman, pictured here with us at Gay Pride in Chicago 2006, just announced their wedding in September. Congratulations!

Most of the surviving Star Trek original cast members will be attending, including Leonard Nemoy (Spock), Nichelle Nichols (Uhura) will be maiden of honor and Walter Koenig (Chekov) will be the best man. Only 200 people were invited, close family and friends, Willam Shatner’s invitation was lost in the mail. I hope they post pictures of the wedding for all to see.

Cigar VolantWhen I asked Alpana what kind of wine they should serve at what may be the most exciting gay wedding of the year, Alpana quickly came up with the perfect bottle on the spot-Cigar Volant by Bonny Doone because there is UFO on the bottle. Cigar Volant is French for flying saucer.

The bottle features a flying saucer to make fun of France’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape wine producers which have historically been known to be fiercely protective of their vineyard properties which is said to have led to the 1954 passing of a municipal decree in the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape that banned the overhead flying, landing or taking off of flying saucers in the commune.

Aren't they lovely? Hanging out with the fans in MilwaukeeWe love our fans and we love Milwaukee. This past Saturday Marc and I hosted Pridefest Milwaukee and all of our FOF favorites including Taylor E. Ross, Tracy Tyler, Amanda Steinstein, Ben Lerman, Sal-E, Teri Yaki, Kennidi Monroe, Tina Torch, Regina Upright and Rick Aiello were up there strutting their stuff on or near the sexy Midwestern stage.

Sadly some tornado-strength winds and thunderstorms almost canceled the show and drowned us all in the floods of emotional disappointment.

Josh and Tracy in deep embraceBut the evening wasn’t without it’s magical, transcendent moments. Tracy Tyler was able to stand up against the forces of nature to deliver a flawless performance of Helen Reddy’s “I Am Woman” re-written for the modern day Olympic-strength tranny.

I wish I had my camera to take a picture of Tracy’s silhouette from backstage as the spotlight shone the rain falling down around her. Ironically, Tracy was the ONLY person wearing the appropriate attire for that kind of weather- a swimsuit!

BIG super-deluxe shout out to our lovely listener Josh and his sweetheart Peter, who along with the rest of their sexy entourage showed us a GREAT time in the Beer Capital of America. And to martymouse who came all the way from California to see us at Pridefest and visit old friends. I miss them already. Coming soon this week we’ll be posting all the delicious dressing room videos we shot at the event.

Listen as we talk on today’s show about wine and relationships, the new iPhone 2.0 software, the creepy 2girls1cup cake, Mike Stimpson’s incredible LEGO recreations of famous photos and backstage drama at Pridefest Milwaukee.

The podcast that comes with a fruity bouquet and a sassy palate- Feast of Fools.
