Bitch! No, I’m not talking about yo’ momma, I’m talking about Bitch with a captial B, the righteous musician best known for being part of the former indie rock band Bitch and Animal and for her appearance in the groundbreaking film “Shortbus.”
Bitch’s fierce Amazon-like presence brings forth a great sense of humor and vulnerability that will leave you curling your toes in delight and thinking of the violin as a vital rock instrument.
We met Bitch in 2001 backstage at the IDA-Palooza Queer Music Festival, just one week after September 11, 2001.
I took one look at her beautiful dread-locked hair and her colorful outfit of mismatched thrift-store treasures and I was in love. Bitch is a woman after my own heart!
Imagine all of us deep in the woods of Woodbury, Tennessee, surrounded by hundreds of fierce queer people dancing, making great music and having a great time as the crickets joined in the jam.
Today Bitch is still rocking out, loud and proud with her band B+TEC=Bitch+The Exciting Conclusion. Pronounced “be tech,” they’ve got a hot new EP in the works under the same title and we’re playing some of these hot new songs on today’s show.
Check out the video for her new song “Bullet”
A hard working woman, Bitch has been busy producing music for her heroes like Ferron, whom I call the lesbian Johnny Cash of folk music. Come to think of it, this comparison is pretty confusing to people since Johnny Cash was pretty lesbian himself.
What’s great about Bitch is that she’s able to not only spot new exciting trends in music and share them with her fans, but she also bridges the music of years past into today with her collaborations with the legendary Ferron who we interviewed in April 2006. Recently Bitch produced Ferron’s new record “Boulder” available here.
Every musician has a deep appreciation with their instrument, and today we talk with Bitch about her deep emotional relationship to her violin. Does she kiss it good night like I do with my piano?
What was the experience in working with her sexy lover, actor Daniella Sea of L-Word fame for the film “Shortbus?”
What is the future of separatism and how does it relate to everyone? After all, our next President might be a woman or a black man, and that could shift people’s ideas of what it means to be outside the realm of power. Does having a woman or a black man in the oval office change things at all? Where does Bitch see herself in 5 years from now? Listen and find out.
Helping you get your groove back one podcast at a time- Feast of Fools.
