Say her name: Begum Nawazish Ali

She’s Pakistan’s top rated television talk-show host, and she’s a tranny. Notice that she begins each show from backstage singing and flows in an out of English and Urdu (the language Pakistanis speak, thanks to Drew!)

Haha. Pakistani isn’t a language!
She’s speaking Urdu.

Whoops! Thanks Drew. What is she saying?

Definitely not anything relating to this but… I thought you guys would find this slightly interesting.

or if you don’t allow html, then just go here: http://www.ifilm.com/video/2685786

We covered the Terramoto de Alcorcon, the Spanish Drag Queen
that parodies Madonna’s “TIme Goes By” a long time ago. We love her but she wouldn’t
do our show unless we wrote all the questions for her.

I am going to ask all people who give a link to any video to please give a short description
as to what it is. I hate taking the leap and finding it’s something I’ve already seen or wouldn’t
want to see.

La Terremoto de Alcorcón is not a drag queen, she is an actual woman, just like Amanda!

What’s interesting for me about this clip are (1) the obvious sexual innuendos, from the band’s punctuation of her statements, the audience’s response, and the splattering of English, (2) the wonderful acceptance of both Urdu and English as equally communicative. This is supposed to be ‘bad’ in academic fields, but since most anybody who speaks two languages does that incessantly anyway, I love it. If you like this clip, don’t miss checking out some Bollywood movies. They ARE long, but they’re a visual delight AND they too incessantly interchange Hindi and English.

Go Patricia!
Its so great to see someone else supporting Bollywood! I’ve been a HUGE fan since I was little.
Have you seen ‘Devdas’? It was the first role that really gave Aishwarya Rai international recognition.
It went to Cannes back in 2002. If you haven’t seen it… find a way! The dancing is off the charts!

PS: I wish I knew what she was saying, Marc :(
But I COULD send the link to my friend Elliot (another white boy who grew up in a foreign country ) and let him translate it for us. He is fluent in Urdu. How about it?
