The year is just about to come to a close, and so I’m taking a look back in our Flickr photos gallery to see where the Feast of Fools has come, and where we’re hopefully going.
April 1, 2008 marks the ten year anniversary of the Feast of Fools, with tons of special events, shows and updates. The show began as a wacky variety show I organized with the Radical Faeries of Chicago to help raise funds for Randolph Street Gallery a struggling visual and performance art space. Sadly, the gallery closed later that year, but I continued the show in other locations with the help of my friend and choreographer Asimina Chremos.
Back in December of 2004 we did the last Feast of Fools live show “XXX-Mas XXXXXX-Treme” just before starting the podcast in February of 2005. You can see in this photo above taken by Jason Smith me about to eat fire at the beginning of the show. Check out the photo gallery here.
It was always an dramatic show-stopper to start off the shows with the chant “The fires of hatred will not consume us. We take the fire and make it our own.” I’m still not sure EXACTLY what it meant, as I borrowed the phrase from the Austin, Texas Lesbian Avengers group. But it seemed like the right thing to do at the time.
May the fires of your heart be warm and joyful this holiday season!

December 26, 2007 at 09:48We can only hope that this coming year 2008 the whole world will be peaceful, bountiful and glorious all throughout. And that people will join hands in taking care of Mother Earth as she have taken care of us for hundreds of generations.
