Curtis’ Gingerbread Masterpiece, 2008

One of our favorite gays living in San Francisco is Curtis Jensen. Curtis loves the holidays- a lot! Every year he creates an over the top architectural rendition in gingerbread of a famous building. This year he’s recreated The Basilica Santa Maria della Salute in Venice in all her confectionery glory. Church never tasted so good!

    OH MY GOD CURTIS! That is amazing!! I get all excited when I successfully put together one of those prefab gingerbread houses from Hobby Lobby! You worked it out!!

    Thanks for all the nice comments. It’s a project that takes me a long time each year, but it wouldn’t be the holidays without it. My friends who come to my annual party would be very dissapointed if I didn’t do one.

    This year’s project took me about 3 weeks to complete in fits and starts between other commitments, a bad cold, and the usual holiday season craziness. The dome is a gingerbread cake baked in a metal bowl and then trimmed at the back to sit flat. against the wall. I finished it at 11:30 am on Sunday the 21st, much later than I usually do and just 4 1/2 hours before my party.
